Popular Nigerian actress Laide Bakare has debunked allegations that she mocked her colleague Biola Bayo following the latter’s announcement of her marital separation.
The controversy began after Bakare posted a video of herself dancing on Instagram, accompanied by a cryptic caption that read:
“All of us will eat breakfast. Asiko lo ma ya to. Good morning people.”
The phrase, commonly used in Nigerian social media slang to refer to relationship breakups, sparked backlash from fans, especially as it came shortly after Biola Bayo revealed she had parted ways with her husband, Oluseyi.
In response to the criticism, Laide Bakare took to Instagram to clarify the misunderstanding. In a video posted on Friday, she explained that the post had nothing to do with Biola Bayo’s situation and was purely coincidental.
“Bad commenters and trolls associations, something must be wrong with you. Please let us all be guided. It is still June 5th here in California, to be precise. I can never shade my own sister Biola Bayo. My prayers are with you. I didn’t get any updates. I was busy with my daughter’s graduation. Trolls are evil,” she said.
Laide Bakare emphasized her solidarity with Biola Bayo and called on the public to refrain from fueling unnecessary drama.
Biola Bayo, a well-known Nollywood actress and producer, had on Tuesday announced the end of her marriage to Oluseyi, citing irreconcilable differences.
