Veteran goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is reportedly on the verge of leaving FC Barcelona after agreeing on personal terms with Galatasaray, according to reports from Fanatik via Mundo Deportivo.
The 33-year-old German shot-stopper, who has been a key figure at Camp Nou since his arrival in 2014, is facing an uncertain future as Barcelona prepares for a goalkeeping overhaul ahead of the 2025/26 season.
With the anticipated signing of Joan Garcia and the recent arrival of Wojciech Szczesny, Ter Stegen could drop to third-choice goalkeeper, jeopardizing his chances of maintaining Germany’s No.1 spot ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
In a bid to secure regular first-team football, Ter Stegen has reportedly accepted Galatasaray’s offer to become their new first-choice goalkeeper following the departure of Fernando Muslera.
However, the Turkish champions are only prepared to proceed with the deal if Barcelona agrees to terminate Ter Stegen’s contract, allowing him to leave on a free transfer.
While such a move would mean forgoing a transfer fee, offloading Ter Stegen’s high wages—among the highest at the club—would ease Barcelona’s financial strain. Discussions may now turn toward a mutual compensation package to finalize the exit before the summer transfer window opens.
If the transfer materializes, it will bring an end to Ter Stegen’s 11-year tenure at Barcelona, where he helped the club to multiple La Liga titles, Copa del Rey victories, and a UEFA Champions League triumph in 2015.
