Kylian Mbappe has extended heartfelt congratulations to his former club Paris Saint-Germain after they thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 in the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday in Munich.
Though the French forward departed PSG last summer to join Real Madrid, he showed no hesitation in celebrating his old team’s first-ever European crown.
Taking to Instagram shortly after the final whistle, Mbappe wrote:
“The big day has finally arrived. Victory, and in club style. Congratulations, PSG.”
Luis Enrique’s men delivered a dazzling performance, with 19-year-old Désiré Doué stealing the spotlight by scoring twice and assisting once before being subbed off in the 65th minute. Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Senny Mayulu completed the rout, sealing what many are calling one of the most dominant Champions League final wins in recent memory.
The emphatic victory also capped off a historic treble for PSG in their first season without Mbappe, having already secured Ligue 1 and Coupe de France titles.
Ironically, while PSG lifted three trophies, Mbappe’s debut season with Real Madrid ended without silverware. However, the 25-year-old did finish as La Liga’s top scorer, winning the prestigious Pichichi award.
Football fans won’t have to wait long for a possible reunion. With the FIFA Club World Cup set to kick off in two weeks, PSG and Real Madrid could meet again — giving Mbappe an early chance to face his old teammates on the world stage.
