In a recent sit-down on Spotify’s The Ringer podcast, Miley Cyrus got candid about her post-Disney career and why you never saw her rock out to Hannah Montana hits once the show wrapped in 2011. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t her choice.
“After I left Disney, I wasn’t allowed to perform any of the Hannah Montana music,” Miley revealed.
Yep — even though the songs had her voice, her face, and literally made her a household name, legal red tape kept her from performing classics like “Nobody’s Perfect” or “The Best of Both Worlds.”
At the time, Miley was shifting gears into her Bangerz era — think “We Can’t Stop” and foam fingers at the VMAs — so a Hannah throwback might’ve felt off-brand. But still, the restriction stung.
“It was still sad knowing those songs have my voice, my face, and I wasn’t allowed to sing them.”
Fast-forward to 2024, and Disney finally made it right. After inducting Miley as a Disney Legend last year, they gave her the green light to perform Hannah Montana songs again.
“After being inducted as a Disney Legend, I was given permission to perform those songs in the future, which is pretty cool.”
Roomies, it’s go time! Those Hannah Montana albums were not child’s play — the debut went triple platinum, and Hannah Montana 2 was certified 4x platinum. Fans have been begging for a nostalgic live moment, and it looks like Miley’s finally free to make it happen.
Fan reactions were a whole vibe:
-
@gee2srt: “Disney hold this.. L. Y’all could’ve made more money off her if y’all let her perform those.”
-
@kimonay_: “The way i would’ve went to court it’s my voice wym 😂😂😂”
-
@nesha97_: “I’ll sell my left kidney for a Hannah vs Miley concert 😢”
-
@jacoraaa: “They wrong, I want a Hannah Montana aka Miley tour 😒 she sung them songs, that was all her!!”
So now that the door’s open, the question is: Will Miley deliver a Disney-era revival on stage? We’re watching… and waiting. 👀
