Former Vice President of Nigeria, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, has dismissed claims that he has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the reports as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Umar Sani, the former Vice President reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP, stating that he has no plans to join any other political party.
“My attention has been drawn to a widely circulated story alleging that His Excellency, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, GCON, has defected to the APC. This claim is entirely false and without any basis,” the statement read.
Sani clarified that a photograph being circulated to support the defection rumour was taken years ago during a condolence visit by Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, and not during any recent political event.
He also noted that Sambo’s scheduled attendance at the commissioning of a 300-bed hospital in Kaduna, a project he initiated while in office, should not be misinterpreted as a political move or an endorsement of another party.
“For the avoidance of doubt, His Excellency, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo remains a loyal and committed member of the PDP. He has no intention of joining any other political party,” the statement added.
The public and media have been urged to disregard the defection claims, which the former Vice President’s camp described as “mischievous” and intended to create confusion.
