R&B superstar Ne-Yo recently opened up about a tense throwback studio session with Keyshia Cole that left a lasting impression. Speaking on the We Sound Crazy podcast, Ne-Yo said he was invited to write for the “I Should’ve Cheated” singer but was surprised by her attitude from the moment she arrived.
“She came in on 10 a little bit,” Ne-Yo recalled. “I’m like, ‘Damn, what you mad at me for?’” He noted that Keyshia seemed visibly upset, making the collaborative writing process difficult. After half-heartedly listening to his ideas, Ne-Yo said she abruptly left the session — and never came back.
Though the encounter was awkward, Ne-Yo made it clear there’s no lingering bad blood, admitting they’ve had better sessions since then. “It was just that first encounter,” he explained, suggesting Keyshia may have been having an off day.
Fans flooded social media with mixed reactions:
-
@nwanyebinladen: “Ne-Yo walked in with love songs, Keyshia came in with heartbreak. The math wasn’t mathing.”
-
@julez540: “So what we saw during her VERZUZ with Ashanti and being late was very on brand 😂😂😂”
-
@tiaraforever14: “He’s not the first person to say this about her though. I hope she don’t give diva vibes to everybody she works with.”
While opinions vary, many agree that Keyshia Cole’s reputation for a fiery attitude is no secret in the industry.
