Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has issued a heartfelt public apology following his red card during the club’s crucial FIFA Club World Cup group-stage defeat to Flamengo.
The 24-year-old, brought on as a second-half substitute on his birthday, was sent off within minutes for a reckless studs-up challenge on Flamengo defender Ayrton Lucas.
The dismissal marks Jackson’s second red card in four appearances, further highlighting his growing disciplinary concerns.
Taking to social media, the Senegal international wrote:
“I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, my teammates, and all the fans watching, I let you down… I’m so angry at myself… No excuses. I take full responsibility. I’ll reflect, I’ll grow, and I’ll come back stronger.”
Jackson’s suspension comes at a critical moment for Chelsea, with new signing Liam Delap now likely to lead the line in the must-win final group match against ES Tunis.
Manager Enzo Maresca is reportedly under pressure to address the striker’s discipline issues ahead of the Premier League opener, as Jackson’s form and availability remain uncertain.
