A 25-year-old Nigerian woman, Ifeoluwa Akinwunmi, has been arrested in Bengaluru, India, for allegedly trafficking 5.325 kilograms of MDMA (ecstasy) valued at N1.8 billion.
Akinwunmi, who claimed to be a hairstylist and nail artist, was apprehended by the Anti-Narcotics Wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) in Tarahunase village.
Acting on intelligence, officers intercepted her as she was allegedly set to deliver the narcotics to a group of African drug peddlers.
According to authorities, the suspect arrived from Delhi and was caught with a bag containing drugs and 11 churidar outfits. She denied knowledge of the drugs, claiming a friend in Delhi asked her to deliver the package to an unknown man.
Investigations revealed she entered India on a business visa in October 2021, later switched to a student visa for a university she never attended, and has overstayed since 2022.
Police disclosed she had planned to open a beauty salon in India and is the daughter of a Nigerian civil servant. Her alleged boyfriend, linked to the drug trade in Delhi, is currently on the run.
Akinwunmi, also known as “Princess,” remains in police custody for further questioning.
