Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo added a touch of humour after leading his country to a dramatic UEFA Nations League victory over Spain, revealing that the win may have earned him some long-overdue respect at home—from his own children.
Speaking after the thrilling final at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Ronaldo shared a lighthearted anecdote about how his kids—who are Spanish—love to tease him over football rivalries.
“My children are Spanish and they joke with me at home. To annoy me, they say — ‘the trophy is for Spain.’”
But with Portugal clinching the trophy after a 2-2 draw and a 5-3 penalty shootout victory, the legendary forward was quick to declare a change in household dynamics.
“Now they saw their Dad win against Spain, so they will show more respect,” Ronaldo laughed.
Ronaldo, who scored in the match, also revealed post-game that he played through injury in the final, highlighting his continued commitment to the national team even at 40 years old.
The win marks another high point in his storied career and a sweet moment of bragging rights—especially at the family dinner table.
