Osimhen Recounts Near-Death Experience After Brutal Collision in 2021

Osimhen to miss Super Eagles friendly matches

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, has opened up about the terrifying moment he nearly lost his career—and possibly his life—during a 2021 Serie A clash between Napoli and Inter Milan at the San Siro.

In a recent interview with media personality Daddy Freeze, Osimhen recalled the violent head-on collision with Inter defender Milan Škriniar, which left him with multiple facial fractures.

“All the bones on my face were broken,” Osimhen recounted grimly, describing how the force of the impact shattered his cheekbone and eye socket, requiring immediate surgery.

The Nigerian forward revealed the extent of the trauma:

“I was looking blank until their goalkeeper touched me – that was when I knew I was alive. It was a near-death injury.”

He said the medical team had to act fast, with doctors opting to operate through his jaw.

“The doctor came and said I had to do surgery, as quickly as possible. He said they will go through my jaw and I cannot hit there for the rest of my life.”

The severity of the injury forced Osimhen to the sidelines for weeks and led to him wearing a protective face mask ever since.

“So I asked him what’s the risk [of not wearing the mask] and he said, ‘if you get the same hit again, you’re done.’”

Osimhen has since returned to top form, but despite strong interest from Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, Juventus, and Galatasaray, the 26-year-old has yet to announce his next move following his loan spell in Turkey.
