Nigerian content creator and businessman Oyemykke has sparked controversy online after revealing in a video that he doesn’t change his boxers every day — a comment that quickly attracted backlash from Nigerians, including public figures.
The drama began when Oyemykke posted a video urging men to take personal hygiene more seriously. Some women responded by emphasizing the need for men to change their underwear daily, citing issues with odor and poor hygiene.
Oyemykke, however, stirred reactions when he admitted he couldn’t advocate for such a routine, as he himself does not change his boxers every day — a practice he described as unrealistic for many men.
His comments ignited a wave of criticism online, with social media users, including photojournalist Pooja, dragging him and branding him “a smelling man.”
In a fiery response shared via Instagram, Oyemykke addressed the backlash and doubled down on his stance:
“I was at my guy’s Eid event yesterday and we brought up the boxers thing… Strangely, everybody claims they change their boxers every day. Nobody said they repeat them. They all say I’m the one that smells.
That didn’t pain me. One photographer, you asked, ‘What kind of man doesn’t change his boxers every day?’ Are you even as neat as me? Are you on my level when it comes to hygiene?
Do you even go out every day? Because I don’t. If I’m home, I might not bathe that day. Sometimes I sit on this chair all day playing video games and forget. I bathe the next day — and yes, I change my boxers then. But to say I must change them daily? It’s a lie!”
Oyemykke’s honesty has divided social media. While many criticized him for normalizing poor hygiene, others praised his bluntness, arguing that not everyone shares the same routine and that people should focus on their own habits.
