The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 22 suspects in connection with the gruesome killing of 12 wedding guests in Mangu Local Government Area.
The victims—passengers travelling from Zaria, Kaduna State, to Qua’an Pan LGA for a wedding—were attacked by a mob on Friday night after reportedly losing their way. The tragic assault took place near Kyarang junction in the Manjul community.
Police spokesperson Alabo Alfred revealed that the attack occurred at about 9:47 pm when a commercial bus belonging to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, was ambushed and set ablaze, killing at least 12 and injuring seven others.
“Upon receipt of credible intelligence, the Commissioner of Police immediately directed swift intervention by the Divisional Police Officer in Mangu. Security operatives dispersed the mob and rescued 21 passengers, 14 of whom were unharmed,” Alfred said.
Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, visited the scene and ordered a full-scale investigation. Tactical teams from the State Intelligence Department (SID), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and other units have been deployed to ensure the arrest of all involved.
“The Command strongly condemns this act of mob justice. All perpetrators will face justice. We urge residents to maintain peace and avoid taking laws into their hands,” the statement added.
So far, 22 suspects have been arrested, with police vowing more arrests as the investigation deepens.
