Manchester City have been fined £1 million by the Premier League after accepting punishment for repeatedly breaching league regulations during the 2024–25 season.
The hefty fine comes after nine separate violations of Rule L.33, which mandates that clubs must kick off or restart the second half of matches on time. The rule is in place to ensure punctuality and consistency across fixtures.
City, who endured a disappointing campaign that saw them finish third and end their streak of four consecutive Premier League titles, have agreed to the sanction while currently competing at the Club World Cup.
According to the Premier League’s disciplinary framework, clubs face escalating fines for repeated infractions. Manchester City’s first delay cost them £40,000, but by the ninth breach, the fine had risen to £190,000.
The cumulative penalties across the season now total £1 million, adding to the club’s woes in what has been a frustrating year both on and off the pitch.
