Kano TikTok Creator Kilina Sentenced to One Year for Indecent Content
A Magistrate Court in Kano has sentenced popular TikTok content creator, Abubakar Usman Kilina, to one year in prison over charges related to promoting indecent behavior online.
Presiding over the case, Magistrate Hadiza Muhammad Hassan of Court No. 21, also granted Kilina the option of a ₦100,000 fine, in addition to a ₦30,000 compensation fee payable to the Kano State Film Censorship Board for “wasting the agency’s time.”
According to Freedom Radio, Kilina was found guilty of producing and sharing a TikTok video that included cross-dressers and contained offensive language, which the court ruled to be in violation of public decency laws.
The case was brought forward by the Kano State Film Censorship Board, which has been actively monitoring digital content that contravenes cultural and moral standards in the state.
In delivering judgment, Magistrate Hadiza issued a stern warning to Kilina, cautioning him against future violations. She emphasized that if he repeats the offense, the court will impose the full custodial sentence without any option of a fine.
