President Bola Tinubu has pledged to make farming attractive and profitable for young Nigerians, promising a shift toward full-scale mechanized agriculture.
Speaking on Monday during the launch of the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme in Abuja, Tinubu stated that his administration aims to modernize farming and empower the youth through innovation and technology.
He boldly declared:
“This equipment, when deployed will empower mechanisation and service providers, create job opportunities, and make farming easy and more sexy for our young ones.”
Highlighting the tools at the government’s disposal, Tinubu revealed that over 2,000 advanced tractors, 50 industrial-grade land preparation bulldozers, 12 mobile workshops, and more than 9,000 specialized farming implements have been mobilized under the programme.
According to him, relying on outdated practices no longer makes sense in today’s world:
“You don’t have to use an 18th-century method for a 21st-century agricultural farming implement.”
The president further noted that his administration is working with international partners to equip Nigerian youths with the skills necessary to operate modern agricultural machinery.
He emphasized that embracing these tools and techniques would pave the way for financial independence among young people while positioning Nigeria as a future global force in agriculture.
