Afrobeats sensation Joeboy, whose real name is Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, has credited the extroverted nature of Nigerians as a major factor in the genre’s global success.
Speaking in a recent interview with Zwart, the singer explained that Nigeria’s vibrant culture, social media presence, and diaspora influence played crucial roles in propelling Afrobeats to international recognition.
“Afrobeats is here now because it has been a long time coming. And there’s so much talent, it’s only right that we just spread it to the world,” Joeboy said.
He highlighted Nigeria’s large population, both at home and abroad, as well as the natural loudness and cultural pride of Nigerians as unique strengths that helped amplify the genre.
“Naturally, we are very loud. That’s what they said. So, we are very out there. And wherever we are in the world, we like to represent [our culture],” he noted.
Joeboy added that high-quality music and the power of social media have further accelerated Afrobeats’ reach across borders.
