Veteran Nigerian rapper Tobechukwu Melvin Ejiofor, popularly known as Illbliss, has condemned the Nigerian government for what he describes as its total failure to support and uplift the country’s youth.
Speaking in a recent episode of The Real Shareholders podcast, Illbliss lamented the harsh realities faced by young Nigerians, stating that the system has left them mentally exhausted and desperate for survival.
“The government has woefully failed young people in this country in the last years. I know boys telling me, ‘Oga boss, we dey street, we dey press because government no send.’ That’s their reality,” he said.
The rapper also criticised the negative influence of modern “wokeness” on youth culture, suggesting that values once condemned are now glorified.
“This generation celebrates not just mediocrity but also lack of decision. Under this ‘cool theory,’ people are allowed to overdose on drugs, live recklessly, and not work but remain entitled. Young people are tired and mentally defeated,” Illbliss added.
He further revealed that some resort to internet fraud out of sheer desperation, citing a young man who justified fraud because his mother’s cancer treatment was unaffordable on an honest salary.
“It’s a tough time being a young person in Nigeria. It’s a tough time aging in Nigeria. It’s a tough time being born in Nigeria,” the rapper concluded.
