New reports suggest that Nigerian striker Victor Boniface’s potential transfer to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr was thwarted by none other than the club’s captain, Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to Nigerian sports journalist Onyebuchi Onokala, popularly known as Buchi Laba, Al Nassr places significant decision-making power in Ronaldo’s hands, especially regarding new signings.

Buchi revealed via his X handle that Al Nassr had been in negotiations for both Boniface and Colombian forward Jhon Durán but ultimately left the final decision to him. The Portuguese star reportedly chose Durán over Boniface.

“Let me give you small gist about Jhon Durán and why I’m surprised he’s unhappy at Al Nassr,” Buchi posted. “Al Nassr negotiated for him and Victor Boniface and at the end they put both names on the table for Cristiano Ronaldo to pick one. He selected Durán.”

He further claimed that no major decisions are made at the club without Ronaldo’s input—not even managerial appointments.

“There’s no signing that happens at Al Nassr without Ronaldo approving. Even the Head Coach. He approves everything, so why’s Durán unhappy after not even close to one year?” he added.

Boniface has since continued to shine at Bayer Leverkusen, playing a key role in their historic Bundesliga title-winning campaign.
