In a surprising revelation, Amerie, best known for her 2005 hit song ‘1 Thing’, has confirmed that she is currently going through a divorce from her husband of 13 years, Lenny Nicholson.
Speaking during an appearance on Way Up With Angela Yee, the R&B star left co-hosts Angela Yee and Jasmine Brand stunned when she openly disclosed her relationship status.
“Not now. I’m going through a divorce, but we’ve been separated since 2023,” Amerie shared when the hosts assumed she was still happily married.
Amerie and Nicholson — who also served as her manager during her career — were together for a total of 19 years and officially tied the knot on June 25, 2011. The couple shares a 7-year-old son, River Rowe Nicholson.
The singer did not reveal further details regarding the reason for their separation but hinted that the split has been ongoing for some time.
The news comes as a surprise to fans, as Amerie has largely kept her private life out of the public eye in recent years.
