Over the weekend, Cardi B shut down critics questioning her songwriting skills as she accepted the prestigious Voice of the Culture Award at the 2025 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards in Los Angeles.
In a powerful speech, the Grammy-winning rapper defended her pen game, stressing her active role in crafting her music:
“I write, I co-write, I rewrite. I speak to what’s true to me. My pen, my mind, my feelings are in every verse and in every hook… This award is not just for me. It’s for the culture, for every writer who helps shape it.”
Cardi also addressed the collaborative nature of the music industry:
“Music is a collaboration — it always has been. The biggest hits, the greatest records come from teamwork… It’s not about ego, it’s about impact, and I love my team.”
Despite her heartfelt words, some skeptics on social media remain unconvinced, demanding proof of solo-written verses in the comment section of ASCAP’s post.
Adding to the buzz, Cardi confirmed on X Spaces that she won’t be releasing the viral snippet track ‘Outside’, hinting that fans will have to wait for her long-anticipated sophomore album:
“I just wanna drop the whole project at once.”
As anticipation builds for her next project, Cardi continues to stand firm in her artistry and creative process.
