Activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has responded to Senator Ned Nwoko’s remarks regarding detained TikToker Timothy Gabriel (also known as Tuma), pledging to ensure the young man regains his freedom.
Sowore, via his verified X handle, condemned Nwoko’s alleged statement that Tuma would “be jailed for 10 years without trial.” The media entrepreneur also rejected claims that he was “jobless” for standing up for Tuma, who accused Regina Daniels (Nwoko’s wife) of infidelity.
In a fiery post, Sowore wrote:
“I want to remind you that, just as we secured Jaruma’s release and others you unlawfully detained in 2021, Tuma will also be freed. Injustice will not be tolerated.”
Sowore accused Nwoko of previous rights abuses, referencing past cases involving detainees allegedly held at Abuja’s FCID upon Nwoko’s orders.
“I’m proud to work to restore human dignity—a job that doesn’t require embezzling government funds, engaging in shady politics, or stealing land from the poor,” he stated.
He also alleged that Nwoko once invited him for a private meeting in Abuja during the period Sahara Reporters was investigating Nwoko’s malaria eradication claims.
“I declined the invitation. Weeks later, I was arrested with the help of the then-Abuja CP after their meeting at your mansion. We’ve been in court since 2022 and haven’t even reached arraignment.”
Sowore concluded with a rallying cry for youth activism against oppression:
“A generation that must eradicate oppression must emerge to stop you and your type. #FreeTumaNow #RevolutionNow.”
The clash between Nwoko and Sowore has heightened public scrutiny over alleged abuses of power by politicians and the growing trend of clamping down on digital critics.
