British music mogul Stormzy has taken a bold new step in his ever-evolving career, hosting the official London premiere of #Merky Films’ debut project, Big Man, at BFI Southbank last night. The film, which marks Stormzy’s first-ever lead acting role, is now available for viewing.
Directed by Academy Award-winner Aneil Karia, Big Man tells the touching fictional story of Tenzman, a former rap icon lost in a period of personal restlessness. His life takes a dramatic turn when two lively young boys, Klevis and Tyrell, unexpectedly enter his world. The trio forms a deep bond that reignites Tenzman’s passion for music and reconnects him with joy and optimism. The film is a blend of vulnerability, humor, and quiet transformation—exploring powerful themes of self-discovery and gratitude.
This marks a milestone for #Merky Films, the latest creative expansion under the Stormzy brand, which already includes #Merky Books, #Merky Foundation, and #Merky FC. The film division is committed to spotlighting bold narratives, emerging voices, and culturally resonant stories within British film and television.
“Music is my first love, but film is my second,” Stormzy shared, describing Big Man as a dream come true and #Merky Films as “a space for powerful British stories and a solid home for fresh, unexpected art.”
He added that the new film arm aims to connect communities, inspire change, and ensure important voices are seen and heard.
Looking ahead, #Merky Films has an ambitious lineup in development, including a drama series, a biopic, documentaries, an animation project, and a bold mockumentary. With Big Man setting the tone, the company is poised to become a powerful force in purpose-driven British storytelling.
