Kenya’s President William Ruto has sparked lighthearted reactions online after joking that his country may soon suffer a “brain drain” — thanks to Nigerian men marrying Kenyan women, including his two daughters.
Speaking at a recent event, Ruto teased that Nigerian men seem to be winning over more Kenyan women, including his own daughters. In a video shared by Africa Facts Zone, he said:
“My daughter is married to a Nigerian, and this one is now married to a Nigerian. And our guys around… I don’t know, are you slow? I don’t know. At this rate, we are going to have a brain drain from Kenya.”
Ruto’s remarks drew laughter from the crowd, but he also used the moment to highlight the strong relationship between Nigeria and Kenya, calling for even deeper diplomatic and cultural ties.
“I think there is something between Kenya and Nigeria; we should pick it up further,” he added.
The light-hearted exchange has since gone viral, sparking banter between Nigerians and Kenyans across social media.
