President Bola Tinubu is making an urgent stop in Benue State this Wednesday, shifting his original plans to commission projects in Kaduna to confront the ongoing wave of violence rocking the state directly.
In a statement signed by Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s visit aims to “assess firsthand the recurring crisis that has claimed numerous lives and caused significant destruction.” His visit to Kaduna has now been rescheduled for Thursday.
Sources at the Presidency say the trip is a “renewed push for peace,” as the President prepares to meet with traditional rulers, political and religious leaders, youth groups, and affected communities in a rare town hall-style engagement.
Ahead of the trip, the Presidency has dispatched a high-powered delegation, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector-General of Police, the National Security Adviser, heads of key intelligence agencies, and top lawmakers from the National Assembly’s defence committees.
President Tinubu, who has previously condemned the killings, reiterated his call for unity and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.
“All hands must be on deck to restore peace,” the statement reads.
All eyes are now on Benue as the President attempts to bring calm to the troubled region.
