In a shocking political twist, Aliyu Audu, former Senior Special Adviser on Public Affairs to President Bola Tinubu, has publicly announced his resignation and declared his intention to campaign actively against Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Appearing on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily, Audu didn’t mince words, saying his exit was driven by “principle and conscience.” He slammed the ruling APC for attempting to turn Nigeria into a one-party state, adding that Tinubu’s recent Democracy Day speech solidified his decision.
“I couldn’t, in good conscience, stay in his government while plotting to oppose him. And I will — by God’s grace, we will remove him. Nigerians will collectively choose a leader — not his chosen, not emilokan, but awa lokan… gbogbo wa lokan!” he said.
Audu also took aim at Nyesom Wike’s controversial role in the APC-led government, calling it a mockery of democracy.
“What is Wike doing in our government? If this is a national unity arrangement, then political parties should be engaged — not individual politicians.”
In his June 8 resignation letter, Audu accused the APC of silencing opposition voices and veering off democratic ideals. While clarifying that he isn’t pledging allegiance to the PDP, he vowed not to be part of what he described as a dangerous move to “crush opposition.”
“If we now begin to crush opposition simply because we’re in power, we risk undermining democracy itself,” he warned.
Audu’s bold move is already stirring conversations across the political space and among concerned Nigerians online.
