President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a swipe at opposition politicians behind a proposed coalition aimed at thwarting his re-election bid in 2027, describing them as “political internally displaced persons (IDPs).”
The president made the remarks on Wednesday during the commissioning of legacy projects in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State. The projects, which include key infrastructure initiatives, were executed by Governor Abdullahi Sule, whom Tinubu praised for prudent governance and a strong commitment to the welfare of his people.
“Sule is doing well because a Bola Tinubu is doing well, too,” the president said while commending the governor’s leadership.
He further pledged the federal government’s continued support to Nasarawa State, stating, “I could see hard work coming from A.A. Sule, who is determined to use the resources available to him for the benefit, stability, and prosperity of Nasarawa State.”
Addressing reports of a political alliance involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasiru El-Rufai, President Tinubu dismissed the coalition as a premature and misguided effort.
“Those who have triggered the early politics in the perdition of coalition suddenly… don’t pay them any attention; they are the political IDPs. Don’t give them a home; the hope is here,” he said.
Tinubu emphasized that he will not remain silent in the face of such political moves, stating, “I’m not geared for what they tried to pull on me. Early political campaign… but who is the politician who will keep quiet when the gangsters are forming a coalition to unseat themselves?”
His comments come amid rising political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections, with opposition figures reportedly exploring alliances to present a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
