In a shocking twist for Nigeria’s leading Pay TV provider, MultiChoice Nigeria Limited, its CEO John Ugbe, and several board directors are set to be arraigned by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) over allegations of obstructing an official investigation and defying lawful summons.
According to court documents marked FHC/ABJ/CR/197/2025, seen by Nairametrics, the FCCPC claims that MultiChoice and its leadership team, including top names such as Gozie Onumonu and Adewunmi Ogunsanya, failed to comply with its investigative directives dated February 25, 2025.
The company allegedly refused to produce key documents and failed to appear at a crucial hearing scheduled for March 6, 2025.
The charges, filed by the FCCPC’s legal team led by Nsitem Chizenum Esq., describe the actions as a direct violation of the FCCPC Act 2018, an offence considered punishable under Section 3 of the Act.
This development comes just days after the Federal High Court in Abuja struck out MultiChoice’s lawsuit challenging the FCCPC’s authority to question its controversial price hikes on DStv and GOtv services — a move that sparked nationwide consumer backlash.
