Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has cleared the air regarding swirling rumors of his retirement from international football, assuring fans that he remains fully committed to representing Nigeria.
The confusion began after Boniface shared a cryptic post on X (formerly Twitter) shortly after Nigeria’s 1-1 friendly draw against Russia. In the post, he wrote:
“Proud to play for my country and a dream for me also. Really enjoyed every moment, the good and the bad.
Thanks a lot. Thank you all. I don hang boot.”
The statement sparked widespread speculation that the Bayer Leverkusen forward had decided to call time on his national team career at just 24 years old.
However, Boniface has now debunked the rumors, clarifying that the post was made in jest. Responding to a tweet by Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck, which said, “POOJA HAS TO BE THE ONE TO ANNOUNCE BOTH VICTORS. NOT FABRIZIO. NIGERIAN HERITAGE,” Boniface replied humorously:
“Announce? Where I dey go?”
The response has been taken as confirmation that the forward has no plans of retiring anytime soon. It also underscores Boniface’s playful nature on social media, where he is known for his humorous posts.
As it stands, no official communication regarding his retirement has been issued either by the player or the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), meaning fans can breathe a sigh of relief — Boniface is still very much a part of the Super Eagles squad.
