Legal practitioner and entrepreneur Ms. Adaobi Alagwu has strongly refuted claims made by former Skye Bank Chairman Dr. Tunde Ayeni in a recent interview, describing them as false, defamatory, and a distraction from the real issues.
Ayeni, in an interview published by THISDAY titled “I Regret Ever Meeting Adaobi Alagwu,” alleged that his relationship with Alagwu was a mistake; however, in a statement issued through her legal team, Indemnity Partners, led by Chief B.C. Igwilo (SAN), Alagwu insists she was misled into a customary marriage under the belief that Ayeni was eligible to take another wife based on customary law.
“Our client was tricked into a purported customary marriage with Dr. Ayeni, who misrepresented himself as being married under customary law—permitting him to marry again,” the statement read.
Alagwu also confirmed that a DNA paternity test, personally arranged and paid for by Ayeni abroad, proved with 99.9999% certainty that he is the biological father of her child.
“This relationship begot Baby Ayeni, who was named by Dr. Ayeni and is officially listed as his child on her birth records and international passport,” the lawyers stated.
In response to Ayeni’s claims that Alagwu hacked his wife’s email to manipulate the DNA process, her legal team called the accusation “absurd” and “baseless.”
“The interview was clearly designed to ridicule, defame, and destroy the reputation of our client,” the letter stated, emphasizing that Alagwu had remained quiet despite Ayeni’s alleged public antagonism and verbal attacks.
The legal team called Ayeni’s actions an unprovoked campaign of personal and public hostility, aimed at shifting focus from the confirmed facts surrounding their relationship and child.
Alagwu’s team has urged the public and media to disregard the misleading narrative, adding that further legal action may be taken if the defamation continues.
