Presidential hopeful and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has confirmed that all declared aspirants under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have agreed in principle to support whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate, provided the primary process is fair and transparent.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP on Friday, Amaechi revealed that himself, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi—all of whom have declared their intentions to run under the ADC platform—are part of a coalition movement that aims to unite behind a single candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, Amaechi expressed caution, warning that the integrity of the primary process must be clearly defined and safeguarded to avoid manipulation.

“What we agreed in principle… is that whoever emerges from a transparent primary will be supported by everyone,” he stated.
“But first, we need to sit down and define what we mean by transparent, because it’s easy for someone to hijack the process and still call it transparent.”

While rumours swirl about the party potentially zoning its ticket to the North—supposedly to favour Atiku Abubakar—the party’s interim national chairman, Senator David Mark, has dismissed such claims. He assured supporters that the ADC under his watch will remain “absolutely transparent” and not endorse any aspirant ahead of the primaries.

The development adds intrigue to what is shaping up to be a pivotal realignment in Nigeria’s political landscape. With major figures from both the PDP and Labour Party moving into the ADC, the party is rapidly positioning itself as a formidable third-force contender to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the next presidential election.
