Aisha Buhari, wife of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has officially returned to the family’s residence in Kaduna State, accompanied by her children, just 12 days after the president’s burial in Daura, Katsina State.
The former First Lady, along with her son Yusuf Buhari and other family members, arrived at the Nigerian Air Force Base, Kaduna on Sunday, where they were warmly received by the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe.
Other dignitaries present included Munira Tanimu, Majority Leader of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, and several senior state officials. The warm reception underlined Kaduna State’s continued respect for the late statesman’s enduring legacy.
Following the formalities, the deputy governor personally escorted Mrs. Buhari and her entourage to their family home in Ungwan Rimi GRA, Kaduna — signaling the family’s full transition back to Kaduna.
The Final Homecoming
Former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away at the age of 82, died in a London hospital and was laid to rest on July 15 in Daura by Islamic rites. His death drew tributes from leaders across Nigeria and beyond, marking the end of an era.
Prior to his passing, Buhari had relocated to Kaduna in February 2025, after spending almost two years in Daura following the conclusion of his tenure in May 2023.
His return to Kaduna earlier this year was a high-profile affair, attended by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Governors Uba Sani (Kaduna) and Babagana Zulum (Borno), and other top political figures.
Legacy and Transition
The former First Lady’s return to Kaduna reaffirms the family’s ties to the state, which has remained a political and personal stronghold for the Buharis. While the nation continues to reflect on Buhari’s complex legacy, his family now begins a quieter chapter of life out of the spotlight.
