Former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has revealed that extended family members and old friends took advantage of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari’s personal weaknesses.
Mrs Buhari made the disclosure in a biography titled From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, authored by Charles Omole.
According to her, her husband’s deep affection for his extended family and long-time associates made him vulnerable to manipulation, which she said negatively affected the objectives of his administration.
The book quoted her as saying that during her husband’s first term in office, many of their children were living and studying abroad, leaving a vacuum that was filled by extended family members who moved into residences within the Presidential Villa.
“With most of her children living and studying abroad early in Buhari’s first term, extended family members filled the void and occupied houses across the Villa,” she said.
She added that her husband’s fondness for these relatives and old friends exposed him to “all kinds of scheming and manipulations,” noting that those familiar with his weaknesses exploited them “to the detriment of the lofty goals of his administration.”
