A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has suggested that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar could emerge as Nigeria’s “Abraham Lincoln” if he wins the 2027 presidential election.
Momodu made the remark on Monday while speaking during an X Space session titled “Avrilsspace: The Electoral Mathematics for 2027,” where he expressed confidence in Atiku’s chances of becoming president.
According to Momodu, Atiku has remained consistent in his presidential ambition, having contested for the nation’s top office since 1993, when he stepped down for the late MKO Abiola under the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Despite losing the 2023 presidential election to President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku is believed to be considering another run in 2027.
“There is no conflict of interest anywhere. Atiku has been running since 1993, and if God favours him, he may likely become the Abraham Lincoln of Nigeria,” Momodu said. “I believe he stands the best chance today.”
Momodu also praised Atiku’s personal conduct, noting his health, business success, and family life, while commending his calm political temperament.
“He has conducted his lifestyle in a simple and straightforward manner. Despite occasional skirmishes with his former boss, Olusegun Obasanjo, he has never uttered any insult against him,” he added.
