Fani-Kayode Blasts Dele Momodu Over Tinubu–Abacha Comparison, Calls Remarks ‘Disrespectful’

Senate Confirms Femi Fani-Kayode, Reno Omokri, Florence Ajimobi, 61 Others as Ambassadors

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has criticised media personality and politician Dele Momodu for comparing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to former military ruler Sani Abacha.

Momodu made the comparison during an appearance on Politics Today, hosted by Seun Okinbaloye on Channels Television, where he criticised the current administration and described Tinubu’s leadership style as dictatorial.

Reacting in a post shared on X on Monday, Fani-Kayode described the comparison as unfair and strongly disagreed with Momodu’s remarks.

“For my brother Bobby Dee to compare President Tinubu to General Sani Abacha and claim that he is a dictator suggests that he is suffering from a level of cognitive dissonance,” he wrote.

Despite his criticism, Fani-Kayode acknowledged his personal respect for Momodu but said he was disappointed by the tone and content of the interview.

“I love Dele and God knows I have respect for him but he sounded drained, tired and broken and spoke little sense yesterday in his interview,” he added.

He further advised Momodu to take a break from political commentary.

“May I humbly suggest to him to try and take a break from politics and political commentary for a while, get his breath back and attempt to overhaul his intellectual engine?” he said.

Fani-Kayode also argued that Momodu’s comments were disrespectful not just to the president but to other government officials and Nigerians at large.

“Not only was he uncharitable and disrespectful to the President, the Vice President, the ministers, the senators and the newly-appointed ambassadors, many of whom have far more experience than him in governance and government, but he also insulted the collective intelligence of the Nigerian people,” he stated.

Turning to party politics, Fani-Kayode criticised members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), urging them to focus on strengthening their party ahead of the 2027 general elections rather than attacking the ruling administration.

“He and his associates in the ADC should focus more on trying to build up their ranks and form a strong opposition that we can engage in the 2027 election rather than continuously talk about what our President and our party are doing,” he wrote.

He concluded by expressing confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and long-term performance.

“To be sure Tinubu started well, he is doing well and he will, by the grace of God, end well with no regrets in 2031,” Fani-Kayode said.
