Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has pledged her unwavering support for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central, as the embattled lawmaker prepares to resume her legislative duties on Tuesday despite opposition from the Senate.
Speaking during an appearance on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme aired on Monday, Yesufu expressed her readiness to accompany Natasha to the National Assembly in defiance of the Senate’s warnings.
“Yes, Senator Natasha has every right to resume office, and tomorrow, she won’t be going alone. We will be with her — I will be with her — and stand with her. And if the Senate decides to kill us, let them kill us,” she declared.
Yesufu criticized the suspension of Senator Natasha as unconstitutional and accused the Senate of willfully ignoring a valid court ruling that ordered a halt to the suspension process. She described the situation as part of a broader pattern of systemic discrimination against women in Nigerian politics.
“There was a ruling instructing them to halt the suspension, yet they chose not to obey it. The Senate is signaling to Nigerians that it can operate above the law and ignore the judiciary,” she added.
CREEBHILLS had earlier reported that Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan insisted she would resume her legislative responsibilities on Tuesday, despite the Senate’s strong warning advising her to stay away from its proceedings.
