Media personality and influencer Scott Iguma has been granted bail by the Lagos State High Court, just three days after he was remanded in prison over defamation claims.
Scott’s arrest came after he accused prominent real estate company PWAN of fraudulent practices. In a viral call-out last week, he submitted over 130 petitions from alleged victims to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), claiming PWAN had been issuing receipts instead of actual land allocations to customers.
Following the public accusations, Scott Iguma was arrested on Thursday by the founder of PWAN, Augustine Onwumere, and was remanded in prison the following day, sparking widespread reactions on social media. Influencers and celebrities including Tunde Ednut, VeryDarkMan, Stanley Ontop, and singer Kokopee condemned both the police and PWAN for what they called an act of oppression.
However, on Monday, Scott was granted bail. In a video update, Kokopee confirmed the news, saying:
“After the hearing, the judge has granted Scott Iguma bail. His legal team is working tirelessly to meet the bail conditions. One thing I must tell Nigerians is that we cannot be silent when it looks like oppression is around the corner. Injustice for one is injustice to all.”
He further warned the real estate company:
“PWAN be warned — if you say you are innocent, come forward with proof.”
