Alaska Airlines has announced the resumption of its flight operations after a temporary ground stop was issued late Sunday due to an unexpected IT system outage affecting both Alaska Airlines and its regional carrier, Horizon Air.
The airline disclosed that the outage began around 11:00 p.m. ET, halting flights system-wide for several hours.
“We experienced an IT outage that resulted in a temporary, system-wide ground stop for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air flights,” the airline said in a statement.
Horizon Air, a subsidiary of Alaska Air Group, primarily serves the Pacific Northwest and Alaska regions.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the initial request to ground all Alaska Airlines mainline flights came at 10:52 p.m. ET.
By 2:00 a.m. ET on Monday, the airline confirmed that the ground stop had been lifted, and operations had resumed.
Alaska Airlines has not yet disclosed the cause of the IT failure or the number of flights affected.
