Ghanaian-American singer and songwriter Amaarae has revealed the surprising reason behind her personal vow never to eat at anyone’s home — and it all comes down to hygiene.
Speaking in a recent interview with UK-based media personality Madame Joyce, the Sad Girls Love Money hitmaker shared her deep-rooted concerns about cleanliness, particularly in food preparation and general household hygiene.
“I Saw Lettuce Washed in a Bathroom Sink”
Amaarae recounted a disturbing experience at a barbecue that permanently changed how she views eating at other people’s houses.
“I went to a barbecue, I saw the owner of the house washing lettuce in their bathroom sink,” she said.
“That was when I said, I will never eat at anybody’s house. And thank God that he let me see that thing because I was waiting for the burger.”
She expressed disbelief that someone would choose to clean food in a place used for brushing teeth and other personal hygiene routines.
“You know that you brush your teeth and you spit on that sink, so why would you go and take lettuce from the kitchen all the way to the bathroom and come and wash it?” she questioned.
Amaarae’s Strict Hygiene Standards
The singer also revealed her own strict household rules, emphasizing her aversion to mixing “bathroom and bedroom things.”
“If you’re brushing your teeth, stay in the bathroom, don’t come into the bedroom. Some people walk around while brushing. I think that it is disgusting,” she added.
She further explained that she uses different sponges for plates and wine glasses to prevent unpleasant odors and cross-contamination.
“Don’t use the same sponge for plates and wine glasses. It’s so bush. Use separate sponges because if you don’t, your glasses are going to smell like food,” Amaarae said.
Personal Hygiene Over Hospitality
