Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has commended Bruno Fernandes for choosing to remain at Old Trafford amid interest from Saudi club Al Hilal, calling the midfielder’s presence “vital” for the team’s success.

Fernandes shone brightly in United’s 2-1 pre-season win over West Ham at the MetLife Stadium, scoring twice — first from the penalty spot, then with a stunning strike from outside the box.

The 30-year-old Portuguese star had reportedly weighed a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League in June, but ultimately committed his future to United.

Speaking after the match, Amorim emphasized the player’s’ value both on and off the pitch:

“It was so clear last season — the assists, the goals, the leadership. He’s our leader,” Amorim said.
“Now we have more players to support him in that role, and that’s a good thing.”

Fernandes played in a more advanced role against West Ham, with Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte holding midfield duties, while new signing Matheus Cunha shared attacking responsibilities in the No. 10 position.
