Arteta Defends Premier League’s Handling of Thomas Partey Rape Allegations

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has stated that the Premier League handled the rape allegations involving midfielder Thomas Partey appropriately, emphasizing that the club followed the correct procedures throughout the process.

Partey has recently been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, shortly after his contract with Arsenal expired.

Speaking at a press conference in Singapore, Arteta said:
“100 per cent, we followed the right processes.”

His remarks follow growing public scrutiny over how the case was managed, particularly in light of reports that allegations against the Ghanaian international were known nearly a year before his first arrest in 2022.

According to The Telegraph, concrete evidence suggests that Arsenal, the Premier League, and the Football Association (FA) were made aware of concerns as early as September 2021. However, no formal investigation was launched at that time, as the case reportedly fell outside the FA’s safeguarding remit—which applies only to children and vulnerable adults involved in football.

The situation continues to raise questions about the broader responsibilities of football authorities when serious allegations are brought forward involving professional players.
