Cierra Ortega Removed from ‘Love Island USA’ After Racist Video Resurfaces

Love Island USA contestant Cierra Ortega has been removed from the villa after an old video of her using anti-Asian slurs resurfaced online, igniting swift backlash and sparking intense discussions about racism and accountability in reality TV.

The 25-year-old content creator mysteriously disappeared from Sunday night’s episode, with the show only citing a “personal situation.” However, social media quickly filled in the blanks after a 2015 clip of Cierra Ortega making derogatory remarks about Botox and Chinese people went viral.

Her family has since spoken out, taking over Ortega’s Instagram story to address the controversy and express their pain.
Calling it “one of the most painful weeks of our lives,” they added:

“When she returns, we believe she’ll face this with honesty, growth and grace. Until then, we’re simply asking for compassion. For patience. For basic human decency.”

The fallout has extended beyond the show. Former Love Island star Belle-A Walker, who is Asian American, expressed that she was “heartbroken” by the resurfaced posts. Bachelorette star Jenn Tran, also of Asian descent, called Cierra Ortega’s comments “inexcusable.”

This marks the second racial controversy to hit Love Island USA this season. Earlier, Yulissa Escobar was also removed from the show after an old podcast clip emerged in which she used a racial slur.

As conversations around accountability and inclusion continue to intensify, Ortega’s abrupt exit adds another complex layer to Love Island’s ongoing struggle with diversity and social responsibility.
