Sean “Diddy” Combs reportedly received a standing ovation from fellow inmates upon returning to his Brooklyn detention center after a partial victory in his high-profile federal trial.
The music mogul was found guilty on two out of five counts, avoiding convictions on the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.
The moment was confirmed by Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, during a press conference over the weekend. According to Agnifilo, several inmates told Combs, “We never get to see anyone beat the government.” He described the moment as deeply emotional, especially for Black men behind bars.
Diddy remains in custody at a Brooklyn federal facility and still faces prison time for prostitution-related offenses. Nearly ten months he has already spent in custody will be credited toward his sentence. His sentencing date is scheduled for October 2, 2025, with Judge Arun Subramanian denying bail due to Combs’ violent history and perceived flight risk.
The verdict came after a tense two-month trial in a Manhattan federal courtroom. Prosecutors had painted Diddy as the ringleader of an organized sex trafficking ring, but his defense team pushed back forcefully. Lead counsel Teny Geragos acknowledged Diddy’s’ past violent behavior and substance abuse but argued those issues did not amount to criminal conspiracy.
Agnifilo said their legal strategy was built around “brutal honesty,” convincing jurors to separate abusive tendencies from organized criminal activity. The strategy seemed to work — the jury initially deadlocked on the racketeering charge before eventually acquitting him of the most serious counts.
Despite the courtroom win, Diddy’s’ legal troubles are far from over. He still faces sentencing and must now begin the hard road of personal accountability. According to his attorneys, the rapper plans to resume a domestic batterer intervention program he started prior to his arrest.
“This trial revealed hard truths,” said Agnifilo. “No amount of fame or wealth can protect someone from the consequences of their own flaws.”
With his legal team earning praise for pulling off what many called a courtroom miracle, all eyes now turn to October — when a judge will decide how much time Diddy will serve for his remaining convictions.
