Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye officially launched his legal career on Friday, marking his first appearance in court as a lawyer.
Clad in the traditional wig and gown, Melaye appeared before Justice Emeka Nwite at Court 8 of the Federal High Court, Abuja, in what he described as a significant milestone in his professional journey. Sharing the moment on his verified Facebook page, he wrote:
“Senator Dino Melaye at the Federal High Court Abuja today. Appeared before Justice Emeka Nwite of Court 8.”
This appearance follows his recent call to the Nigerian Bar in early July, where he was among over 5,000 new lawyers admitted after completing his law degree at Baze University, Abuja.
Dino Melaye, a well-known figure in Nigerian politics and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), previously served as a Senator representing Kogi West in the 8th National Assembly, and earlier as a member of the House of Representatives.
His courtroom debut signals a new phase in his multifaceted career, which has included stints as an activist, reality TV personality, and outspoken politician. Now, he’s adding “legal practitioner” to his résumé — a move that blends his legal training with his years of experience in governance and advocacy.
