Nigerian disc jockey and activist, DJ Switch, has ignited a firestorm of criticism following her reaction to the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
Shortly after the news broke, DJ Switch took to her Instagram story, posting a message many interpreted as celebratory and harsh:
“The sweet reality of inevitability. RIP MF. One down.”

The post swiftly went viral, drawing widespread backlash from social media users who condemned her for lacking empathy and disrespecting the dead.
However, DJ Switch stood her ground in a follow-up video, where she unapologetically defended her stance.
“Please tell me what is Buhari’s achievement apart from destroying Nigeria? When you are a bad leader, people will drink to your demise. But when you lead with fairness, people will mourn when you die,” she said.
She further addressed critics questioning her sense of compassion:
“I don’t need to prove my empathy to anybody. When I saw that news, it was like justice. Next on the list, T-Pain, how far?”
Her remarks, particularly the cryptic reference to “T-Pain” — believed by many to be code for another public figure — sparked even more speculation and outrage.
DJ Switch, known for her bold activism during the 2020 #EndSARS protests, where she live-streamed events from the Lekki Toll Gate, has long been a fierce critic of Nigerian political leadership.

While some supporters hailed her for “speaking the truth,” others called her comments distasteful and insensitive, reigniting debates over freedom of expression, legacy accountability, and respect for the dead.
