A Nigerian man has stirred intense backlash on social media after claiming that any Nigerian living in the UK should be sending at least £5,000 (over ₦9.6 million) home every month to support their family.
In his words:
“If you can’t send that kind of money, maybe the UK is not for you. Go to Cotonou or Togo instead.”
His bold statement has ignited widespread debate, with many calling the expectation unrealistic given the high cost of living in the UK. Others, however, argue that it reflects the growing financial pressure placed on Nigerians in the diaspora to provide for loved ones back home.
What’s your take — an out-of-touch demand or a valid call for responsibility?
