Nigerian rapper Ice Prince Zamani has expressed disappointment over the lack of respect he receives in the music industry despite his contributions and achievements.
Speaking on the Tea With Tay podcast hosted by Taymesan, the “Oleku” crooner lamented how fellow artists often overlook or downplay his legacy.
“The first African artist to go on a BET stage and collect the BET award. Selfless credit here,” Ice Prince stated proudly, highlighting his historic win at the 2013 BET Awards for Best International Act: Africa.
He also addressed his quiet exit from Chocolate City, noting:
“I am one of the only artists probably in the world that left his record label with no drama.”
When pressed about fellow former labelmates like Brymo and M.I Abaga, Ice Prince acknowledged the controversies that surrounded their exits, contrasting them with his peaceful departure.
Despite being a trailblazer in African hip-hop, Ice Prince says he is often overlooked:
“I’ve done so many stuff for Nigeria, for Africa, but people always disrespect or sleep on me… I don’t make music for accolades or respect. You see all these titles like ‘legend,’ ‘king,’ ‘OG’—I don’t even like them.”
He emphasized that for him, music is a passion beyond recognition or awards.
