Chelsea forward Joao Felix has expressed his desire to return to Benfica, admitting he feels more at home with the Portuguese club amid uncertainty surrounding his future at Stamford Bridge.
Joao Felix, who joined Chelsea on a permanent deal from Atlético Madrid last summer, has struggled to make a lasting impact. Despite playing 40 matches across all competitions and scoring 11 goals with two assists, the Portuguese attacker failed to secure a spot in Chelsea’s squad for the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup after returning from a loan spell at AC Milan.
The 24-year-old’s contract with Chelsea runs until 2031, but his recent comments suggest a move away could be on the horizon. Speaking to Correio da Manhã, Felix hinted that a reunion with Benfica—where he began his professional career—would be a welcome development.
“With Bruno Lage being the coach, who I know and who was important for my career, he influences my decision, and I would be very happy about returning to Benfica,” Felix said.
“That is probably where I am most inclined to go. I feel that I need to be at home, and that is why Benfica is one of the ideas that I have in mind.”
Joao Felix’s sentiment reflects a growing desire to reignite his career in more familiar territory, particularly under the guidance of Bruno Lage, the manager who oversaw his breakthrough at Benfica.
The comments are expected to fuel speculation about his future, especially as Chelsea continue to reshuffle their squad under new head coach Enzo Maresca. Whether Benfica will make a formal approach remains to be seen, but Felix’s public declaration signals he’s ready to take the next step—possibly away from West London.
