Mavin Records singer Johnny Drille delivered a soulful performance for the Super Falcons during a special homecoming celebration held in their honour on Wednesday in Lagos.
The event, organised by Nigerian Breweries Plc through its brands Amstel Malta and Goldberg, took place at the company’s headquarters in Iganmu. It was aimed at celebrating the team’s historic Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) triumph and promoting women’s football in Nigeria.
Johnny Drille, known for his mellow and emotional sound, serenaded the Falcons with an acoustic set that left many in awe.
Videos shared online showed the players clapping, dancing, and smiling as they enjoyed the performance. One emotional clip captured Asisat Oshoala, Deborah Abiodun, and Oluwatosin Demehin singing along with the artiste.
Drille’s presence added a cultural and musical flair to the event, reflecting the nation’s pride in the Super Falcons’ hard-fought victory.
Earlier this week, President Bola Tinubu also honoured the team at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he conferred the national title Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on all players and officials.
Additionally, each player received a three-bedroom apartment and the naira equivalent of $100,000, while technical staff were awarded $50,000 each.
The president praised their success as a symbol of “courage, determination, discipline, and consistency.”
The Super Falcons claimed their record-extending 10th WAFCON title in dramatic fashion, coming from two goals down to defeat the host nation, Morocco, 3-2 in the final.
Johnny Drille, whose real name is John Ighodaro, is best known for hits like ‘Wait for Me’, ‘Count on You’, and ‘How Are You (My Friend)’. His recent collaboration ‘Angelina’ with Fireboy DML continues to receive widespread acclaim, cementing his status as one of Nigeria’s top soul artists.
