Legendary Fuji musician K1 De Ultimate was among notable figures who received Senator Seriake Dickson and his delegation in Ijebu-Ode during a condolence visit following the passing of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the revered Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.

Oba Adetona died on Sunday, July 13, after an illustrious 65-year reign, one of the longest in Nigerian history. He was buried the following day in Ijebu-Ode amid deep mourning across the country.

Senator Dickson, former Governor of Bayelsa State and current Senator representing Bayelsa West, is a descendant of the Obu warrior family of Orua, which traces its royal lineage to the Fidipote ruling house of Ijebuland in Ogun State.

As a prince of the Fidipote family, Dickson expressed profound sorrow over the monarch’s demise, hailing him as “an iconic leader whose legacy will be remembered for generations.”

In an Instagram post on Thursday, Senator Dickson recounted his visit:

“Yesterday, I paid a condolence visit to Ijebu-Ode on account of the passing of our dearly beloved and revered King, H.R.M. Kabiyesi Alayeluwa Oba Sikiru Adetona, Ogbagba II… In the company of the Kakanfo Awujale of Ijebuland, High Chief Bimbo Okenla, we visited H.R.H. Oba Tajudeen Kolawole Omotayo… We also visited the Head of the Princes’ Council, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde K1… who himself is a member of the Fidipote Royal Family.”

He thanked K1 and others for their unwavering support to the monarch during his reign and for their unity following his death. Dickson also condoled with the late monarch’s family and promised further visits.

K1 De Ultimate also paid a heartfelt tribute to the late monarch via Instagram:

“Kabiyesi, our father, our pride, the Awujale of Ijebu Ode. Today, I, K1 De Ultimate, join millions of sons and daughters of Ijebuland to bid you farewell… Your reign brought progress, peace, and pride to our land… Your memory remains evergreen, Kabiyesi. Sun re o! Erin wo!! Orisa Ijebu, Awujale of Ijebuland Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona Ogbagba II CFR.”

His tribute comes amid rising speculation online that the veteran musician could be considered as a potential successor to the throne, given his deep royal roots and recent prestigious titles.

However, no official confirmation has been made, and the formal selection process by the Ijebu kingmakers has yet to begin.

In July 2023, Oba Adetona conferred on K1 De Ultimate the title of Olori Omo Oba Akile Ijebu during the annual Ojude Oba Festival—a title previously held by the late Otunba Subomi Balogun.

The role places K1 as the symbolic head of all princes and princesses of Ijebuland. Combined with his earlier installation as Mayegun of Yorubaland by the late Alaafin of Oyo in 2020, K1’s position as a cultural and traditional icon extends far beyond music.
