Linda Yaccarino Steps Down as CEO of X After Two Tumultuous Years

Linda Yaccarino has officially resigned as CEO of X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, after serving in the role for nearly two years.

Her departure, confirmed on July 9, 2025, marks the end of a controversial and transformative era for the social media giant under Elon Musk’s ownership.

Yaccarino, who joined X in June 2023 after a successful run as NBCUniversal’s head of advertising, was instrumental in leading the rebranding of Twitter to X and advancing Musk’s vision of turning the platform into an “everything app.”

She spearheaded initiatives such as X Money, Community Notes, and strategic partnerships, while also working to restore advertiser trust amid concerns over content moderation and hate speech.

Her resignation comes amid growing criticism surrounding X’s integration of XAI’s Grok chatbot, which has sparked backlash over politically charged content and the platform’s handling of misinformation.

X has yet to announce a successor, and the leadership vacuum raises new questions about the company’s strategic direction and long-term viability.

Yaccarino’s exit signals another major shift for a platform still navigating the turbulence of Musk’s bold, and often polarizing, transformation agenda.
